About Louis Colbert

Louis Colbert, President, CEO, and Author

Louis Colbert

My name is Louis Colbert, owner, author, and CFO for Picture Perfect Verses, LLC. So, how did I get here? In 1996, I discovered through astounding consequences that writing offered me a mind-blowing freedom I’d never known before. A growing appreciation for self-education soon followed. My early writing influences included Dr. Ida B. Wells, Kahlil Gibran, Nikki Giovanni, Mr. W.E.B.  Du Bois, Zora Neale Hurston, Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, and Alex Haley.

I esteemed the greatness in each of these writers for various reasons, but their works literally gave me the confidence to write my story, in order to re-write my story. By 2013, Picture Perfect Verses was established for the purpose of unifying talented individuals to achieve a common goal: to see writers’ artistry shared, and to see readers challenged, motivated, amused, and changed.

Working as a seasonal tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt since 2015 has also honed in me the knowledge of tax laws and meeting compliance, as well as the value of being detailed and efficient. In the remarkable area of publishing, our passion for creating various forms of artistic expressions is executed through a team-building chemistry and a standard for high quality. I’m privileged and blessed to stand alongside some incredible and creative minds!

Domingo’s Bodega

I was minding my own business, listening to Cormega
In a compact space surrounded by strangers
Predominantly spoken spanish was certainly the language
I felt friendly vibes with no negative exchanges
Although self defense tactics can always be taken
I was a long way from feeling like my life was in danger
It appeared as tho God was blessing society with a favor
Like corrections were being made to the violence that enslaves us
Knowing that things can go left at the snap of a finger
I was neither naive or overly courageous
Because we live in a world where mankind looses patience
And satan will send messages served to portray us
They say one bad reaction will always delay us
A deadly combination of pride mixed with anguish
I chose to end this piece with no negative phrases
A welcoming experience at Domingo’s Bodega
